I want to be humbled like that man. He seemed like a proud macho man, yet when he spoke of his recent encounters with God, his voice, his body just seemed so humble.
He didn't care about being vulnerable, didn't seem to mind being lowered to a simple blind man, all he spoke of was wanting to grow, wanting to spread the Good News, and wanting to bring others to His feet.
I listened to his simple words. He didn't try to sound fancy or important. He didn't boast about his experiences or his life. He didn't try to glorify himself. In fact, he admitted his ignorance, but along with that, his desire to know. He just spoke from his heart.
God is so apparent in that man. And God spoke to me, my life, twice on that evening-once with that man, the other with a little boy sitting a couple of rows in front of me.
He was sleeping while the preaching was going on, but as soon as that finished and the choir started singing, he shot right out of his seat, took his little tambourine, and imitated how the girls were playing and dancing at the front of the church.
He didn't care about looking silly, didn't care that no one seemed to notice him, he just played and danced.
It was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
So pure, so innocent.
The Word says we must be born again, and have faith like a child's to enter the Kingdom. I understand now what "faith like a child means".
It means believing like we once did when we were children. It means being pure and having no malice in our hearts. I want to be like a child again. I want their kind of faith. It's what's asked of us.
"Humble yourself and you will be exalted".
Such a simple statement, but oh so difficult action.
Humble yourself.
And you will be exalted.
To get to the reward, one must first do what must be done. No matter how hard, embarrassing, or intimidating the task may be. We are so used to doing our own thing, having our own authority.
But sometimes we have to get over ourselves.
We must be willing to let God put us through the fire so we can be polished and refined. Only then will He be able to see His reflection in us…and so will everyone else.
It's so beautiful and encouraging to see Jesus through someone's eyes, their smile, their joy.
That is my deepest desire.
For my heart, my face, my whole being to reflect the beauty of my Lord.
